The Bethune College Council (BCC) is the student government of Norman Bethune College. We are composed of both elected and hired members that work together to make Norman Bethune College a more vibrant and enjoyable place for students. Through both social and academic events and activities that will allow you to meet new friends and have new experiences, we hope to make the years that you spend at York University the best possible.

The composition of the BCC is elected and hired at differnet times of the year to allow as many people to get involved as possible.

Nine of the positions on BCC are elected in the General Elections held in March. They include the President, Executive Vice-President, Vice-President External, Vice-President Athletics and the four General Members.

Afterwards the outgoing Council hires 5 hired positions to join the BCC. These include the Vice-President Finance, Vice-President Social, Administrative Assistant, Promotions and Marketing Assistant and the Orientation Chair

Finally, in October of the new academic year, there are by-elections where the two First Year Representatives are elected onto BCC as well as any vacant positions that need to be filled.

As well as these student positions we also have the Master of the College, a Fellows’ Representative and an Alumni Representative sit on the Council. These members are ongoing and are appointed from time to time. They’re role is to help steer the BCC in the right direction, using their past expereinces and knowledge to shape our decisions.

The mandate of the BCC begins on May 1st and continues until April 30th of the following year. Through the summer months we do most of the planning for events and creating new ways to help promote the college to you our students. We also work on any upgrades that the different spaces throughout the college are needing.

At the end of the day, the BCC is here to serve you, the students and help you get through your University careers while still having a good time.
